User Guide Ver 2.4

In the Beatbox Workbench carton you will find the following items, please take time out to read this notecard  and get familiar with the components and workflow involved in burning your SL Mp3 Albums.

Contents of Box

1 - BeatBox Publisher Signup v2.4
2 - Beatbox Mp3 WorkBench v2.4
3 - Beatbox Mp3 Players

First things First
In order to create Mp3 Albums to sell and give away, you need to open an account, to do this, rez the item "Random BeatBox Publisher Signup" Touch it and it will create an account based on your unique Avatar name and generate a password.

The password will be sent in chat, if you dont see it, simply look in the Local Chat window. (Please take a note of your password - you can change it to something more memorable later - but keep a record of it for now)

Once your account is created, the Signup item will derez and you can move onto creating your first album.

Next Step.... Create your Album

1 - Rez the Beatbox Mp3 WorkBench

2 - Once Rezzed, touch the workbench once and from the Blue Menu - select "Edit" to create your album

A web page will open and you can use your avatar name and Beatbox Publisher Password to log in. - (nb: this is not your Secondlife password) - at this time the Secondlife Webbrowser is.. to be polite.. not as good as it could be...  We recommend Firefox or Safari for fast and safe web browsing.

If you forget your password, select the edit menu option on the workbench, open the log on page and choose the New Password Item, your new password will be sent to you in the Chat Window, if SL is slow (shocking I know) this may take a few minutes.

Once logged in you can create as many albums as you wish - you will need to put the Track name, the URL where the Mp3 is stored and its duration in minutes and seconds. You may also wish to assign some artwork which will be displayed on the player during playback.

Assigning artwork to a track
Select a texture from your inventory - set its perms to Copy via the properties box and take a copy of its UUID by right clicking on it and selecting Copy Asset UUID (Mac users - Command Click) and paste the value into the track texture field.

Saving Your Album
Save your album - a unique code will be displayed at the top of the Album Edit screen - once your happy with your track listing - Copy this code to your clipboard or a new notecard.

Burn your Album
Now you have your track listing, some artwork and your unique album code, your ready to burn your Mp3 album and unleash it onto the metaverse.

- Touch the Workbench and select Rez Blank

- A new blank album will appear on top of the work bench

- Right Click and Edit the album, paste your unique album code into the 1st line of the notecard "Config" and save.

- Set the Config notecard to NO MODIFY

- Your album is now ready to be customised with your choice of textures and artwork - (do ensure that the textures are set to copy and transfer)

- Once your happy with its appearance, you can rename it and set its permissions to NO MOD

- You can now sell your album, package it with other promotional material and / or give copies away

Test Early - Test Often
Like so many things in SL, its a really good idea to test your Album early, making sure your tracks are streaming in ok, the artwork is displaying, its not full of typo's etc - so please, please, please - do yourself a favour and test the album throughly before letting it lose.

If you want someone to look and listen to it - get in touch with us, we aremore than happy to assist you
during the build and make you look and sound your very best.

Distribute your Album
OK - all ready to go? Tested your masterpiece with your player and your friends? Now its time to spread your tune across the metaverse.

A couple of things to remember before you do.

Your album is a self contained prim - which means you can sell it, vend it or give it away without any problems, however - you will need to also give away a player. in the box is a selection of Mp3 players, packaged in a variety of styles which you are free to give away with the album.

We would suggest you make a package containing your album, a player plus any notecards or Landmarks, concert calendars or web links to make sure people can come and find you.

Hints and Tips
1 - For reliability, do not use file names with spaces in them - they 'may' work but can slow the load process down
2 - Test the album with friends, once your happy, test again! - also feel free to send us a copy for testing
3 - When putting textures in as album artwork, keep it to a maximum of 256 pixels wide or deep - it assists the load time
4 - Check your sample rates - for most purposes a 128kps Mp3 file is plenty good enough
